Kristin Kumagawa is a junior at Chapman University, studying communication, disability studies, and public relations with her service dog, Mailie. She was diagnosed with lupus in seventh grade, which has largely impacted her desire to increase disability awareness and accessibility in the media. She’s grateful to be a current summer intern with the American Association of People with Disabilities, where she has been able to put her interests into action. Meeting people with similar experiences of being disabled, BIPOC, and/or LGBT+ has provided her with a stronger sense of community and motivation to fight for intersectionality. She can’t wait to see how the Asian Americans with Disabilities Initiative will help and educate others, and is thrilled to be assisting in its development.
